Plant seeds are commonly called “gingell” or “til”. Sesame oil has a high concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids and is a good source of vitamin E.
Oil extraction or oil scavenging is a procedure that involves oil swishing in the mouth for oral and systemic health benefits. Sesame oil has been used for many years as a traditional Indian remedy to strengthen teeth, gums and jaws and prevent tooth decay, oral smells, bleeding gums, dry throat and lips chapped. The concept of oil extraction is not new and it has been discussed in the Ayurvedic text charaka samhita, where it is called kavala graha or kavala gandoosha.
For the oil pulling a tablespoon of sesame oil is taken in the mouth sucked and sucked and pulled between the teeth for 10-20 minutes.The viscous oil turns this and milky white. It is claimed that swishing activates enzymes and draws toxins out of the blood. The oil should not be swallowed as it contains bacteria and toxins.
